Joyce Moran
President, Morhyne Development Company LLC

CCPA Board

Joyce Moran, 58, is president of Morhyne Development Company LLC. Morhyne is a real estate development company formed to develop affordable accessible housing. Moran retired in 2003 as vice president – law of Sears, Roebuck and Co. In her final assignment, she was an executive on loan and the Sears liaison to The Welfare to Work Partnership. In this role she spearheaded the development of an employment program for persons moving from welfare to careers in law firm support staff positions in Chicago, Miami and New Orleans. She was previously Sears vice president and corporate secretary, where she was responsible for board of directors affairs. She also served as vice president – law and deputy general counsel, where she was responsible for the operation of Sears Law Department; vice president - full-line stores, where she was responsible for all legal issues involving the company’s full-line stores; and an assistant general counsel, managing the section of Sears Law Department that handled commercial transactions and commercial litigation. She joined Sears in 1978 after beginning her career as an associate with the law firm of Sidley & Austin in Chicago.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Smith College, a juris doctorate degree from Yale Law School, and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

Moran is a licensed real estate broker and has been a volunteer consultant and coach with Executive Service Corps of Chicago. She is a member and former director of the Executive Leadership Council, chair of the Economic Development Committee at Coppin Memorial A.M.E. Church, and a member of the Women’s Association of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Her former professional activities include board of director positions with the Chicago Area Foundation for Legal Services, Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board and the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago. Former civic and community activities include service as a trustee of Smith College, board of director posts with the Alumnae Association of Smith College, American Civil Liberties Union (national and Illinois), Chicago Foundation for Women, and leadership positions with the Chicago School Finance Authority and Coppin Memorial A.M.E. Church Spiritual Tea and Public Forum Committees.

A native of Chicago, she resides in Chicago, Illinois.
