Jim Gailoreto

Performer, composer and arranger Jim Gailloreto received a Bachelor of Music in Composition from DePaul University and a Master of Music in Composition from Northwestern University. As a soloist, he has performed with the Chicago String Ensemble, Symphony of the Shores, the Arts Center Jazz Ensemble, Patricia Barber, Kurt Elling, Fulcrum Point and with Bill Russo's Chicago Jazz Ensemble. Jim was selected as a finalist in the Jazziz Magazine's "Woodwinds On Fire" talent search and has performed at the Women in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center. Jim is also proud to have worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, performing Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite and Leonard Bernstein's Prelude Fugues and Riffs. He can be heard with Ensemble 9 on the recording Children of the Night (Hallway Records), and on Kurt Elling's Grammy-nominated CD Man In the Air (Blue Note). In addition to recording with various Chicago based jazz artists, Jim has three solo CDs to his credit: The Insider (Wide Sound Records), Shadow Puppets (Naim Label) and Jazz String Quintet (Naim Label).

Jim composes and performs with his own group, Jazz String Quintet; they were recently featured at the 2005 IAJE Midwest Regional Conference in Chicago. In the summer of 2005, he received a commission from Columbia College to write an original piece for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jon Faddis; the piece was premiered at Chicago's Millennium Park.

As a jazz educator, Jim has participated in workshops, master classes and summer camps. He is committed to bringing the understanding of jazz to people of all ages and cultures.
