Hopera: Hip Hop Opera Summer Music Program
HOPERA: A Hip Hop Opera Summer Music Program is a fresh new summer program at Roosevelt University designed for high school aged students who are interested in the creative/ performing arts. This program strives to expose young aspiring musical artist to classical and urban music while creating a positive outlet for self-expression through the arts.

The program specializes in fusing classical and Hip Hop music. This program is ideal for students interested in developing a higher level of vocal, poetry, rapping, stage craft, or performing arts.

At the culmination of the program students will present their own HOPERA (hip hop opera). Courses in the program are designed to develop students critical thinking skills, technical skills, music skills, as well as performing skills. Other program activities will include: Hip Hop dance and DJ workshops, guest performances, and presentations by professional Hip Hop and Opera artists.

  • Enhance performance skill

Duration: The program will run Monday-Friday, 9:00am-3:45pm

Typical Day
Morning exercise: 9:00am-9:45am
Hip Hop Writing: 10:00am-11:00am
Vocal Arts: 11:00am-12:00pm
Lunch: 12:00pm-12:45pm
Dance Workshop: 1:00pm-2:30pm
Production: 2:35pm-3:45pm
Tuition: The three week program tuition cost is $340.00 (USD), which includes instruction, class materials, and activities. Lunch is not included in this cost and students are encouraged to bring lunch or money for university cafeteria.

Audition: Students applying for admission should prepare a short recorded audition. Singers-one popular song or classical art song, Rappers-one 32 bar rap verse, Poets-2 spoken word pieces. CD’s should be clearly marked with the students name and selection.
