The Music Conservatory - Steps for Admission

  1. Complete the Application

All applicants (U.S. residents, permanent residents and international students) must apply online. Applications for Fall entry are due January 15; Spring entry December 1*. Applicants to the Professional Diploma in Opera must complete the appropriate application by December 1.

The application fee is $75 if the application is postmarked on or before January 15. The fee after January 15 is $100 ($75 + a $25 late fee).

Transfer applicants must also submit a release form per NASM requirements (available from the Music Conservatory).

*Application and auditions for Spring entry is very select and granted only at the discretion of the admissions office. Please contact us at music@roosevelt.edu before applying to check for openings.

  2. Schedule Your Audition

Review audition dates (see link to page on left), for your area, then follow the instructions on the application to request an audition or to submit a recorded audition (due January 15, 2010). Contacting us early will usually give you more options in terms of available dates. Applicants to the Professional Diploma in Opera will be notified in December if they have been selected for the live January audition.

Composition applicants submit portfolios in lieu of auditions, but should plan to visit CCPA for in-person interviews (required for all students within 500 miles). Please review and adhere to the Audition requirements on the Audition Requirements Page.

All undergraduate music applicants must take a music theory diagnostic placement exam as part of the audition process. This exam will either be administered at the audition in Chicago or via a proctor remotely.

  3. Transcripts

Make requests to have test scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation sent to us. CCPA requires 2 letters per applicant. There is no standard form. Please be sure to arrange for two official transcripts (original documents that are sent by the institution). High school students must sent a copy of their standardized test scores; either ACT or SAT scores are acceptable. Many high schools print test scores automatically on transcripts, so check with your school counselor when requesting your transcripts. You are not required to submit your test scores separately if they are printed on your high school transcript. If you are requesting the scores directly from the testing centers, Roosevelt's ACT code is 1124; SAT code is 1666. ÊAll materials should be received in February for maximum scholarship consideration.

International students may be required to have their transcripts evaluated by Educational Credential Evaluators in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    Send all materials to:

    Chicago College of Performing Arts
    Office of Enrollment, Room 918
    430 S. Michigan Ave.
    Chicago, IL 60605
  4. Financial Aid / FAFSA

US Citizens and permanent residents must file the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as close to February 1 as possible if they wish to be considered for aid (which includes scholarship). Note: Applicants are considered for scholarship through the college. Auditions, programmatic needs of the conservatory, grades, test scores and financial need are considered. The Roosevelt University FAFSA code is 001749

Master of Music applicants who wish to apply for Graduate assistantships may do so by downloading the Grad Assistant Application (located in menu on left) and submitting to the Music Conservatory Enrollment office no later than January 15, 2010.

  5. Audition

Present your audition, or submit your tape. Applicants will be directed to an audition request page at the end of the online application. Please contact us if you do not reach the form automatically. Audition dates are located on the Audition Dates page, under the links located on the left. It is extremely important that applicants adhere to the audition requirements. Contact us if you have questions.

  6. Await our decision (usually arrives by April 1).
  7. If admitted, respond with the signed agreement and deposit by May 1. Undergraduates must also return the residence hall security deposit and application.

All CCPA students MUST live on campus for two years if they are under 21. See the Housing and Fees Link at left for information on rates.
