Cyrus Forough, violin
The Music Conservatory Faculty

Cyrus Forough is a Laureate of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, first prize winner of the Milwaukee Symphony Violin Competition and winner of the USIA's National violin/piano Duo Competition with his wife, pianist Carolyn McCracken. The Forough/McCracken duo has performed in recitals notably at the Kennedy Center, Phillips Collection and Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires. Mr. Forough's recital and orchestral appearances throughout Eastern and Western Europe, the USSR, and the United States have received unanimous praise by both the critics and public alike. He has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Belgian National Radio Orchestra, Moscow State Radio Orchestra and numerous others. His legendary teachers include David Oistrakh, Arthur Grumiaux, and Josef Gingold.

Mr. Forough is a professor of violin and chamber music at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. He was a faculty member for eight years of the Indiana University School of Music Summer String Academy. At present he is a member of the faculty of the Meadowmount School of Music during the summer and the Chateau de Champs in Paris, France. He also teaches highly gifted pre-college students, some of whom have already distinguished themselves as first prize winners at the International Johansen Competition, the Illinois Young Performer's Competition, and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and as prize winners at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition in Folkestone, England, the Stulberg International Competition, and many others. Mr. Forough's past students are members of the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, and Houston Symphony. He has been an adjudicator for competitions including the Stulberg International String Competition, the Sorantin International Competition and the Seattle Young Artists Festival.

Representing the United States as Artistic Ambassador, Mr. Forough has concertized and given master classes in the Far East and throughout South America under the auspices of the US State Department. He has also conducted master classes at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Chateau de Champs in Paris, Indiana University School of Music String Academy, and the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. His live and recorded performances have been broadcast on radio and television on four continents.

Mr. Forough performs on a 1718 Antonius Stradivarius violin.
