Cheryl Frazes Hill, Head of Music Education
The Music Conservatory Faculty

Award-winning educator, conductor, and singer Cheryl Frazes Hill joined the faculty of CCPA in 2002. Dr. Frazes Hill serves as Head of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities. She also holds the position of Associate conductor of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Her affiliation with the CSC began in 1976, first as a singer, then as assistant conductor and now as Associate Conductor, appointed to this post by Margaret Hillis in 1991, where she assists Maestro Duain Wolfe. Dr. Frazes Hill has prepared the CSC for Maestros Boulez, Barenboim, Levine, Tilson Thomas and many others, as well as conducting the chorus in concert at Orchestra Hall.

Dr. Frazes Hill received her Doctorate in Conducting and her Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and undergraduate degrees from the University of Illinois. An accomplished vocalist, she is a featured soloist on the 1986 Grammy-nominated CBS release Mozart, Music for Basset Horns, and concert credits include a recital of Mozart divertimenti at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival. During her 15 years of public school teaching, Dr. Frazes Hill received numerous awards, including the Governor's Award in 1993, the Northwestern Alumni Merit Award in 1997, the Commendation of Excellence in Teaching from the Golden Apple Foundation in 1987, the Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Chicago in 1988, and the Outstanding Music Educator Award in 1991.

Dr. Frazes Hill is a frequent clinician, most recently appearing as the Illinois All-State conductor in January 2005. Dr. Frazes Hill has published articles in national journals on choral technique and Hebrew transliterations. Her most recent article on Margaret Hillis was featured on the cover of the nationally-distributed Choral Journal. Prior to joining the faculty at CCPA, Dr. Frazes Hill conducted and taught at Northwestern University for 12 years.
