Ani Gogova, piano
The Music Conservatory Faculty

Ani Gogova came to the U.S. in 1998 after a successful performance career in her native Bulgaria. She won all of the major Bulgarian competitions including the National Competition for Instrumentalists and Composers “Sv. Obretenov” and the National Piano Competition “D. Nenov”. Gogova has played with several major orchestras and has appeared at the most prominent concert halls as a recitalist: Bulgaria Hall, Hall 9 of the National Palace of Culture, The Grand Hall of the Conservatory, among others. A frequent guest at music festivals such as Sofia Summer, Apolonia, and Salon of the Arts, Gogova has been highlighted in recitals and interviewed by top classical music journalists of the Bulgarian National Radio and National Television. In 1999 she was the featured artist in the esteemed music show Names from the future of Classic FM Radio—a two-hour program promoting young stars of the Bulgarian performance stage. Internationally, Gogova has performed in Italy, England, Serbia and Montenegro, Portugal, and Slovakia. In the U.S., she has performed in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida. Her performances have been broadcasted by WFMT-Chicago and Interlochen Public Radio.

A dedicated teacher, Dr. Gogova brings to her studio the extensive experience of her own piano studies and the rich traditions of the “old school piano playing” that she inherited from her teachers. At the State Academy of Music in Sofia she studied with Yovcho Krushev, a former student/assistant of the Ganevs who graduated from the Moscow Conservatory under the legendary Heinrich Neuhaus. In the U.S., Gogova earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan studying with the distinguished American pedagogue Logan Skelton (student of Arthur Balsam). In addition, she has studied in numerous master classes and festivals around the world with Sequeira Costa, Menahem Pressler, John Perry, Christopher Taylor, Oxana Yablonskaya, and most recently Boris Berman and Ann Schein. While at Michigan, she was awarded the 1999 A. Kern Award for Excellence in Teaching and 2002 Michigan Teaching Fellow Award.

Dr. Gogova is sought after adjudicator and presenter at various forums. Most recently she judged the Illinois State Finals of the Music Teachers National Association piano competitions and the Second Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in Serbia and Montenegro. Her lecture Performance Practice of Improvisation in the 18th Century was featured at the International Piano Pedagogy forum in March of 2004 in Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro. In addition, she has presented for the College Music Society, MTNA, and at several Universities throughout the country.

Ani Gogova joined the faculty of CCPA in the Fall of 2003. In addition, she is on the faculty of the Interlochen Arts Camp, an intensive summer program for international students of pre-college age.
