Leonardo Vordoni, Guest Conductor 2007-2008 The Music Conservatory Faculty
Born in Trieste, Italy, Leonardo Vordoni studied piano at the Conservatorio Tartini, composition at the Accademis Musicale in Portugruaro, and earned a diploma in opera conducting at Bologna’s Reale Accademica Filarmonica. His conducting debut in 2004 at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto (Così fan tutte) garnered great acclaim, and he returned there in 2005 for Il matrimonio segreto. Collaborations with Edoardo Muller include L’Italiani in Algeri with Seattle Opera, La Cenerentola for Houston Grand Opera, and Il trovatore and Le nozze di Figaro for San Diego Opera. A concert with his wife, mezzo-soprano Joyce Di Donato, and the Musica Viva Orchestra in Moscow received widespread critical success. Desired for his musicality and his interpretations, he has given master classes for Italian repertoire across the United States for young artists programs for the San Francisco, Seattle and Utah Operas, Kansas University, UMKC Conservatory, University of North Texas in conjunction with La Fenice in Castelfrano Veneto as well as coaching for the Accademis Rossiniana in Pesaro.
