Steps for Admission
The Music Conservatory

1. Complete the Application
All applicants (U.S. Residents, Permenant Residents and International Students): apply online.

The application fee is $75 if the application is postmarked on or before January 15. The fee after January 15 is $100 ($75 + a $25 late fee). Transfer applicants must also submit a release form (download) as per NASM requirements. Applicants to the Professional Diploma in Opera must complete the appropriate application and send a preliminary audition recording by December 1.

2. Schedule your audition
Review audition dates, for your area, then follow the instructions on the application to request an audition or to receive a deadline for taped submission. Contacting us early will usually give you more options in terms of available dates. Applicants to the Professional Diploma in Opera must complete the application and send a preliminary audition recording by December 1. Composition applicants submit portfolios in lieu of auditions, but should plan to visit CCPA for in-person interviews (required for all students within 500 miles). Click here for audition/portfolio requirements.

3. Transcripts
Make requests to have test scores and transcripts sent to us. Please be sure to arrange for two official transcripts (original documents that are sent by the institution). All materials should be received in February for maximum consideration. Applicants can use their browsers to see the status of their application files provided they have received a serial number. Contact us if you need your number.

International students may be required to have their transcripts evaluated by Educational Credential Evaluators in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Send all materials to:

Chicago College of Performing Arts
Office of Enrollment, Room 918
430 S. Michigan Ave.
Chicago, IL 60605

4. Financial Aid / FAFSA
US Citizens and permanent residents must file the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as close to February 1 as possible if they wish to be considered for aid (which includes scholarship).
Note: Applicants are considered for scholarship through the college. Auditions, grades, test scores and financial need are considered. The only other source of scholarship is via the Scholars Program, which is an honors track. Follow this link for application details.

5. Audition
Present your audition, or submit your tape. Online applicants will be directed to an online request page at the end of the application. Please contact us if you do not reach the form automatically. Click here for requirements, and click here to see the audition dates. It is extemely important that applicants adhere to the audition requirements. Contact us if you have questions.

6. Await our decision (usually arrives by April 1).

7. If admitted, respond with the signed agreement and deposit by May 1. Undergraduates must also return the residence hall security deposit and application. CCPA maintains a two-year residency requirement for students under 21. Read about our new state of the art residence hall here.
