CCPA to Host Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival

The 17th annual MID-AMERICA CLASSICAL GUITAR ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL will be held March 20-22 at Roosevelt University. The festival, organized by Prof. Pamela Kimmel, will bring together ensembles from 18 schools including universities, high schools and community music organizations. Over 150 guitarists will be coming from Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Indiana and throughout Illinois to perform in the Friday evening and Sunday afternoon concerts culminating in two large “guitar orchestra” works (Toccata by Leo Brouwer and Variations on “Down in Yon Forest” by Don Draganski) conducted by Prof. Stephen Squires. Saturday evening’s guest-artist concert will feature Hungarian-born Peter and Zoltan Katona who will also teach a master class on Saturday afternoon. The Katona Twins concert will include works by Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Piazzolla and more. All events are open to the public. Saturday evening concerts tickets are $15; all other events are $5. Roosevelt University faculty, students and staff may attend free of charge. Reservations are strongly recommended due to limited seating in Ganz Hall.
