A major selling point is the conservatory's outstanding internship program. Students receive academic credit for interning at Chicago's professional theatres. Another innovative part of The Theatre Conservatory is the summertime Fast Track Master's Degree for high school theatre teachers. This program was the first of its kind in the country and is now being copied by other universities.

Chicago College of Performing Arts is well situated on the top floors of the historic Auditorium Building, designed by world-famous architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan. The building includes the 3,700-seat Auditorium Theatre, renowned for its beauty and exquisite acoustics. Located on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Congress Parkway, this former hotel is now an integral part of the “educational corridor” of more than 65,000 students enrolled in various institutions in the famous downtown Loop.

Across the street are the flower gardens of Millennium Park, the magnificent Buckingham Fountain, and the sparkling beauty of Lake Michigan. A few minutes walk in either direction are many of the city’s major cultural institutions, including: Symphony Center, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; the Lyric Opera of Chicago; the Jazz Showcase; the Goodman, Chicago, Oriental, and Cadillac theatres; the Art Institute, Field Museum of Natural History, and the “Magnificent Mile” of shops and galleries.

This ideal location provides opportunities for learning from some of the most accomplished musicians in the world—many of whom comprise our faculty of artist-teachers, from principals in the Chicago Symphony to Grammy-nominated jazz artists.

Students in The Music Conservatory and The Theatre Conservatory develop their artistic voices through study and interaction with our internationally recognized faculty and a curriculum designed to meet the highest standards of professional development. You’ll gain insight and inspiration from attending the various events that invigorate the city, from Broadway musicals to concerts at Symphony Center and the Ravinia Festival.
